FEMINISM AND SUSTAINABILITY

FEMINISM AND SUSTAINABILITY

Today 8M, Bufet Casanovas within its action plan for the development of the culture of sustainability, wanted to join the feminist struggle to remember that in terms of gender equality we still have many challenges to come if we want to live in a more egalitarian, prosperous and sustainable society.

Today it is impossible to configure the concept of sustainable development*, that way of organizing ourselves as a society that meets the needs of the present without compromising the capacity of future generations, if it is not based on a feminist perspective and aimed at the common good.

Women have been the protagonists of many global advances to achieve a fairer and more sustainable world, and we know that feminism means change, even though it is necessary to go beyond speeches and banners. That feminism is dialogue, it is sorority, it speaks of dignified lives, it speaks of breaking glass ceilings and of occupying places of responsibility and leadership and doing it our way, of lives free of male violence, of lives without fear, of lives with equal opportunities, of equal rights, of education, of breaking with patriarchal privileges, it speaks of transformation, of the engine of social change of profound scope. A feminism of the whole world: of women and men.

This year we wanted to make our particular tribute to CLARA CAMPOAMOR, lawyer who defended from the tribune of a parliament the rights of women and achieved on October 1, 1931 the universal women’s suffrage.

“You have the right that the law has given you, the law that you made, but you do not have the Natural Right, the fundamental Right that is based on the respect of every human being, and what you do is to hold a power; let the woman manifest herself and you will see how that power you can no longer stop it…”
